2014 Texas Bowl Preview

Texas (6-6, Big 12) vs. Arkansas (6-6, SEC)

Date: Monday, December 29, 2014
Time: 9:00 p.m. (EST)
Television: ESPN

Once upon a time a Texas vs Arkansas game was known as the Game of the Century and President Nixon declared the victorious Longhorns the national champions. Both UT and the Hogs were Southwest Conference members and the rivalry between Austin and Fayetteville was a pretty big deal. Jump ahead more than a generation and the two teams are in different leagues and both schools have had limited runs of success (Texas more so than UofA, including a 2005 national title) and each are currently looking to build their programs back to prominence.

Charlie Strong and Bret Bielema are working on the building toughness and stability at each school. Both started the season slowly and both rallied to gain bowl-eligibility. The 2014 Texas Bowl game should feature stingy defenses and two teams trying to establish a running game. At this time the Razorbacks appear to have the stronger team, but only slightly. This should be a good game. Not for nothing, but it would be helpful if the Big XII wins the majority of its games against the Southeast Conference.

#RuleOfLaw: UofA 24 Razorbacks - UT Longhorns 23
