The Rams of Virginia Commonwealth (VCU) have appeared in the NCAA Tournament nine times with a respectable 5-9 record in the Big Dance. A member of the Colonial Athletic Association, VCU defeated Duke in the first round in 2007 before falling to Pittsburgh in the second round. Each of VCU's NCAA Tournament appearances since 1996 has come as an automatic bid after winning the CAA Tournament to earn the bid.

  • Defeated Duke in first round, 79-77
  • Lost to Pittsburgh in second round, 84-79

  • Defeated USC in first round, 59-46
  • Defeated Georgetown in second round, 74-56
  • Defeated Purdue in Sweet 16, 94-76
  • Defeated Florida State in Elite 8, 72-71
  • Defeated Kansas in Elite 8, 71-61
  • Lost to Butler in Final Four, 70-62

2012 NCAA Tournament

  • Defeated Wichita State in first round, 62-59
  • Lost to Indiana in second round, 63-61

2013 NCAA Tournament

  • Defeated Akron in second round, 88-42
