Rutgers Scarlet Knights All-Time NCAA Tournament Record: 5-7

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights, despite being a member of college basketball's top conference, have not seen much success as a result. Rutgers has played in the NCAA Tournament just six times reaching the Final Four in 1976. The Scarlet Knights have not made the NCAA Tournament since 1991 and have not won a game in the Big Dance since 1983. Meanwhile, Rutgers has had some NIT success playing in the 2004 NIT Championship Game.



1975 NCAA Tournament

  • Lost to Louisville in second round, 91-78

1976 NCAA Tournament

  • Defeated Princeton in second round, 54-53
  • Defeated Connecticut in regional semifinal, 93-79
  • Defeated Virginia Military in regional final, 91-75
  • Lost to Michigan in National Semifinal, 86-70
  • Lost to UCLA in third place game, 106-92

1979 NCAA Tournament

  • Defeated Georgetown in second round, 64-58
  • Lost to St. John's in regional semifinal, 67-65

1983 NCAA Tournament

  • Defeated Louisiana-Lafayette in first round, 60-53
  • Lost to St. John's in second round, 66-55

1989 NCAA Tournament

  • Lost to Iowa in first round, 87-73

1991 NCAA Tournament

  • Lost to Arizona State in first round, 79-76
