Purdue Boilermakers All-Time NCAA Tournament Record: 35-26

The Purdue Boilermakers are a two-time NCAA Tournament Final Four participant in 1969 and 1980 having appeared in the Big Dance consistently since 2007. Under the direction of head coach Gene Keady, the Boilermakers made the NCAA Tournament 17 times and the NIT Tournament 5 times before Matt Painter took over in 2006.


1969 NCAA Tournament

  • Defeated Miami (OH) in regional semifinal, 91-71
  • Defeated Marquette in regional final, 75-73
  • Defeated North Carolina in National Semifinal, 92-65
  • Lost to UCLA in National Championship, 92-72

1977 NCAA Tournament

  • Lost to North Carolina in second round, 69-66

1980 NCAA Tournament

  • Defeated La Salle in first round, 90-82
  • Defeated St. John's in second round, 87-72
  • Defeated Indiana in regional semifinal, 76-69
  • Defeated Duke in regional final, 68-60
  • Lost to UCLA in National Semifinal, 67-62
  • Defeated Iowa in third place game, 75-58

1983 NCAA Tournament

  • Defeated Robert Morris in first round, 55-53
  • Lost to Arkansas in second round, 78-68

1984 NCAA Tournament

  • Lost to Memphis in second round, 66-48

1985 NCAA Tournament

  • Lost to Auburn in first round, 59-58

1986 NCAA Tournament

  • Lost to LSU in first round, 94-87

1987 NCAA Tournament

  • Defeated Northeastern in first round, 104-95
  • Lost to Florida in second round, 85-66

1988 NCAA Tournament

  • Defeated Fairleigh Dickinson in first round, 94-79
  • Defeated Memphis in second round, 100-73 Lost to Kansas State in regional semifinal, 73-70

1990 NCAA Tournament

  • Defeated Louisiana-Monroe in first round, 75-63
  • Lost to Texas in second round, 73-72

1991 NCAA Tournament

  • Lost to Temple in first round, 80-63

1993 NCAA Tournament

  • Lost to Rhode Island in first round, 74-68

1994 NCAA Tournament

  • Defeated UCF in first round, 98-67
  • Defeated Alabama in second round, 83-73
  • Defeated Kansas in regional semifinal, 83-78
  • Lost to Duke in regional final, 69-60

1995 NCAA Tournament

  • Defeated Wisconsin-Green Bay in first round, 49-48
  • Lost to Memphis in second round, 75-73

1996 NCAA Tournament

  • Defeated Western Carolina in first round, 73-71
  • Lost to Georgia in second round, 76-69

1997 NCAA Tournament

  • Defeated Rhode Island in first round, 83-76
  • Lost to Kansas in second round, 75-61

1998 NCAA Tournament

  • Defeated Delaware in first round, 95-56
  • Defeated Detroit in second round, 80-65
  • Lost to Stanford in regional semifinal, 67-59

1999 NCAA Tournament

  • Defeated Texas in first round, 58-54
  • Defeated Miami (FL) in second round, 73-63
  • Lost to Temple in regional semifinal, 77-55

2000 NCAA Tournament

  • Defeated Dayton in first round, 62-61
  • Defeated Oklahoma in second round, 66-62

2011 NCAA Tournament

  • Defeated St. Peter's in first round, 65-43
  • Lost to VCU in second round, 94-76

2012 NCAA Tournament

  • Defeated Saint Mary's in first round, 72-69
  • Lost to Kansas in second round, 63-60

2015 NCAA Tournament
