College Baseball Wood Bat Summer Leagues

College Summer Leagues have a long history and tradition of developing future Major League baseball players. These leagues adhere to strict NCAA rules and regulations and most utilize wood bats instead of aluminum. There is a lot of funding that stems from Major League Baseball, so the scout awareness is high. Many of the premiere prospects find there way into these leagues. There are two major governing bodies that group the leagues into a two united organization. First, the National Alliance of College Summer Baseball encompasses 8 complete leagues into their fold. An example of one of their leagues is the famous Cape Cod League. The other is the National Baseball Congress which holds 16 leagues including the California Collegiate League. Summer Leagues play from June to August and finish up the season with a College style tournaments in the first week of August. The National Baseball Congress holds an annual World Series in Wichita Kansas where it’s 16 leagues are represented with at least one team each. Another interesting league composed of 15 teams that are independent from the Alliance and the Congress is the Prospects League. They are a well funded and respected league with a high level of student athletes from many major universities as well. There are many other leagues, but these are the most prominent and the ones we will cover.
