2007 NFL Draft Preview - Mock Draft2007 NFL Draft Picks 1-16 | Picks 17-32
2007 NFL Draft - Pick #17 - Jacksonville JaguarsProjected Pick: Jarvis Moss, DE, Florida The Jaguars will probably look at safety or a player who can improve their pass rush at this spot. I’ve got them going Moss here, who has a knack for getting to QBs, and who should be a much better value than any of the safeties who should be available at 17.
2007 NFL Draft - Pick #18 - Cincinnati BengalsProjected Pick: Darrelle Revis, CB, Pittsburgh The Bengals will be looking mostly at defense on the first day of the draft. Cincinnati badly needs a cornerback, making Revis the likely choice here. Revis has good instincts and can support the run. He could come right in and play in nickel-back situations and could help out returning punts.
2007 NFL Draft - Pick #19 - Tennessee TitansProjected Pick: Ted Ginn Jr, WR, Ohio State The Titans would be ecstatic if Ginn Jr. slipped this far and they could grab him with the 19 th selection. Tennessee is looking to give Vince Young some weapons and Ginn has certainly shown the ability to stretch the field with his speed. Also he should be a major weapon in the return game.
2007 NFL Draft - Pick #20 - New York GiantsProjected Pick: Marshawn Lynch, RB, Cal They added Reuben Droughns to tandem with Brandon Jacobs in the backfield, but with Tiki Barber retiring, a back with Lynch’s explosiveness and versatility could be too tough to pass up here. The Giants could fill their needs at linebacker and cornerback in later rounds.
2007 NFL Draft - Pick #21 - Denver BroncosProjected Pick: Robert Meachem, WR, Tennessee Javon Walker is a solid #1 receiver, but with Rod Smith’s increasing age Meachem could be a good pick here. Meachem has speed and playmaking ability that could make him a good #2 receiver and another needed weapon for Jay Cutler.
2007 NFL Draft - Pick #22 - Dallas CowboysProjected Pick: Aaron Ross, CB, Texas Dallas needs to get stronger at cornerback, making Ross the pick here. They would have to give consideration to a wide receiver like Dwayne Bowe, who’s still on the board in this scenario, but this draft is deep enough at receiver that it makes sense for the Cowboys to fill their top need, and wait until the second or third round to grab a receiver.
2007 NFL Draft - Pick #23 - Kansas City ChiefsProjected Pick: Dwayne Bowe, WR, LSU Kansas City is in dire need of a playmaking wide receiver and Bowe fits that bill. Bowe has plus size and quality playmaking skills. He is what the Chiefs need to take pressure off Larry Johnson and the running game.
2007 NFL Draft - Pick #24 - New England Patriots (from Seattle)Projected Pick: Paul Posluszny, LB, Penn State The Patriots would love to add Posluszny if he’s still on the board at 24 where the Patriots own the Seahawks pick from last season’s Deion Branch deal. Posluszny is a student of the game and has the toughness and instincts to start immediately for New England.
2007 NFL Draft - Pick #25 - New York JetsProjected Pick: Eric Wright, CB, UNLV The Jets need an upgrade at cornerback. Chris Houston is a possibility here, but teams have been mixed on his value. Wright whose value has been increasing in recent weeks after impressive workouts could be the pick here instead. It would be surprising to see the Jets not go with a corner here.
2007 NFL Draft - Pick #26 - Philadelphia EaglesProjected Pick: Reggie Nelson, S, Florida The Eagles could upgrade their secondary and will likely look to take the highest rated defensive back on their board at this spot. Nelson is a playmaker at safety with good range. He could likely be the pick at this spot.
2007 NFL Draft - Pick #27 - New Orleans SaintsProjected Pick: Chris Houston, CB, Tennessee This would be a good value for Houston and the Saints would likely be very happy if he slipped to them at this spot. He could be a bit of a project in terms of learning to support the run and overall technique, but he has superb speed, athleticism, and strength. Houston could certainly be a player in nickel and dime situations as he develops.
2007 NFL Draft - Pick #28 - New England PatriotsProjected Pick: Michael Griffin, S, Texas The Patriots will likely go defense again at this spot, and if Griffin’s still on the board it’s likely that he’ll get selected here. He’s not as explosive as Nelson, but he’s more versatile and actually could be a better fit on the injury plagued Patriot defense.
2007 NFL Draft - Pick #29 - Baltimore RavensProjected Pick: Joe Staley, OT, Central Michigan The Ravens have holes at linebacker, cornerback, and offensive tackle. In this scenario Staley has the best value of the remaining players at those spots. Staley is slightly undersized, but has the frame to grow, and has great footwork and agility. He would serve an apprenticeship behind Jonathan Ogden before taking over as the left-tackle of the future.
2007 NFL Draft - Pick #30 - San Diego ChargersProjected Pick: Dwayne Jarrett, WR, USC Dwayne Jarrett is slipping, and he did not have a great pro day workout. Still, he was a major playmaker in college and the Chargers need an option at wideout to off-set RB LaDanian Tomlinson and TE Antonio Gates.
2007 NFL Draft - Pick #31 - Chicago BearsProjected Pick: Justin Harrell, DT, Tennessee Harrell has been rising of late, and could actually keep rising out of the Bears reach over the next week. He’d be a great pick to further improve an already dangerous Bears defense. It seems that Harrell is fully recovered from the torn biceps injury that sidelined him for most of his senior season.
2007 NFL Draft - Pick #32 - Indianapolis ColtsProjected Pick: Jon Beason, OLB, Miami The Colts have holes on defense and should be looking at LB and DT in this spot. Beason lacks top coverage skills, but he has size quickness and tackling skills that could make him a good choice for the Colts.
